TARGETED SPECIES: FINGER MULLET
Part 3 of my Cast Netting Adventures in New Jersey (West Palm Beach) and also the SEASON FINALE of Happy Bait 2016!! Found them really thick this day as they were all bundled up and tight before the nor'easter. I've been having a poor mullet run this year until this day. The Mullet were on the smaller size and they were actually "Finger Mullet" Before, I was getting the "Two Fingered Mullet" or "Cigar Mullet" So I made the dreadful mistake of bringing my heavier and bigger net. I should have brung the net with a smaller mesh size so that I wouldn't end up gilling half of them and the net turns into a Christmas Tree.
**P.S. I was fishing on Ocean Blvd. In West Palm Beach... Look for the jetty in the middle of the water, you will have to swim there...**
In this video, I talked about how it is a bit difficult throwing from a jetty rather than the surf or a pier. When you throw on a jetty; you don't have a good platform for your feet to stand on, you may also get your net snagged on the bottom, and you will lose half your bait if you throw and pull in immediately to avoid snagging your expensive cast net.
I don't demonstrate "perfect casts" because I'm not generating enough centripetal force from whereI was standing. Also, I had a very hard wind behind my back that altered the spread of the net mid-air.
Nonetheless, I still ended up with a great amount of bait that is going to be used in the future. Whether it is for fishing or crabbing, I am baited to the extreme!! LOL Thanks for following my cast netting journey for 2016!!
