My military ration nightmare has finally arrived. It’s time to man up and tackle the most infamous U.S. MRE menu: Cheese and Veggie Omelet. This breakfast-inspired field ration is vile in appearance, smell, and taste, and the entrée was so disliked by American troops, it earned the nickname “Vomelet” (short for Vomit-Omelet). Despite my reputation for eating just about anything, I’ll admit — this Meal Ready to Eat actually scares me. This particular example was packed back in 2007, so it’s getting pretty vintage at this point. This dreaded combat ration haunted soldiers for four long years — from 2005 to 2008 — and it’s safe to say it won’t be missed.
