“The European Union is becoming a caricature of itself. It accelerates in the wrong direction; it is not by any chance that in many countries in Europe elections are offering victories to parties that defend the nation.”

“The success of our friend (Geert) Wilders is not by chance, it is not a whim of the Dutch, I strongly believe that it is a vote in conscience, a vote that attests for the defeat of those that have been in power for the past 30 years.”

8. SOUNDBITE (Portuguese) Andre Ventura, leader of Portuguese Party Chega (Enough):
“Beyond several victories of our partners in Latin America, in South America, we have had recently the victory of our friend Geert Wilders in the Netherlands - which we are very proud of. So it makes perfect sense that this event is happening now and that it happens in Lisbon, fate allowed for new elections to happen in March (2024), when we also expect to be able to change the paradigm, to get rid of the socialism that govern us.”

10. SOUNDBITE (German) Tino Chrupala, co-leader of German party ADF:
"And what we are currently seeing, also with the election success in the Netherlands, with Mr. Wilders, is that particularly the patriotic forces in Europe are making strong gains. And that is no coincidence. And it will not be the end of patriotic growth in Europe. We see it in all the many countries where politicians are making policy in the interests of their own people and declaring war on the Eurocrats. And that is also our goal for the next European elections, to form a strong parliamentary group with representatives of the Chega, with representatives of the Rassemblement National as a strong community to counter these Eurocrats in Brussels."

STORYLINE:
Marine Le Pen and other European far-right leaders on Friday celebrated the victory of Geert Wilders in the Dutch elections as they gathered for talks in Portugal.
At a news conference in Lisbon, Le Pen expressed hope that other like-minded parties would follow suit in their own countries, and at next year’s European Parliament elections.
Wilders won a landslide victory in the Dutch election and is in pole position to form the next ruling coalition and possibly become his country's next prime minister.
Le Pen said the Dutch result was not “a whim“ but represented “the defeat of those that have been in power for the past 30 years”.
The French politician made her comments in a packed room at the Portuguese parliament.
She and Tino Chrupala, co-leader of German ADF, were invited there by the leader of Chega, the right-wing populist party that has been gaining attention and votes in the Iberian country.
Portugal is en route to a snap election in March 2023 following the resignation of Prime Minister Antonio Costa amid a corruption scandal involving the Socialist government.
