Tamluk Durga Puja Carnival – Key Facts

Location & Route

The carnival is organized in Tamluk town, the district headquarters of East Medinipur.

It usually takes place along the stretch from Hospital More to Nimtala More, which is a central part of the town.

Purpose & Origin

Inspired by the Kolkata Durga Puja Carnival initiated by the West Bengal Government, Tamluk's version showcases the best Durga Pujas in the town before immersion.

It allows local clubs and Puja committees to display their idols and artistic work one last time before immersion (Bisarjan).

Number of Participants

In 2024, around 20 Durga Puja committees participated in the Tamluk Carnival.

Timing

The event is usually held after Dashami (Vijaya Dashami), during or after the immersion process, when the main Durga Puja celebrations have concluded.

Typically conducted in the evening, with lighting and cultural displays.

Administration & Security

The local administration takes care of crowd management, traffic control, and security.

Special arrangements are made if weather conditions (like low-pressure rainfall) pose a challenge.

Thousands of spectators gather on both sides of the road to watch the procession.
