Saath Nibhaana Saathiya (transl. Stay together, my love) is an Indian drama television produced by Rashmi Sharma under Rashmi Sharma Telefilms.[4] The show premiered on 3 May 2010 on Star Plus.[5] It starred Giaa Manek, Rucha Hasabnis, Mohammad Nazim, Rupal Patel and Devoleena Bhattacharjee.


It revolved around the Modi family and explored morals and values of a typical Gujarati joint family, when cousins Gopi and Rashi marry Modi sons, Ahem and Jigar.[7] The storyline took several leaps including one year leap in June 2013,[8] eight years leap in February 2014,[9] and a further ten years in March 2015,[10] four years in May 2016[11] and three months in March 2017. The series ended on 23 July 2017, completing 2,184 episodes.[12] It was replaced by Tu Sooraj, Main Saanjh Piyaji.[13]

A sequel and second season of the series, Saath Nibhaana Saathiya 2 premiered on 19 October 2020 on StarPlus starring Devoleena Bhattacharjee, Rupal Patel, Sneha Jain, Harsh Nagar, and Akanksha Juneja.



Initially, the show focused on life and arranged the marriage of two female cousins (Gopi and Rashi) and their contrasting personalities. Urmila and Jitu adopted Gopi (the latter's niece) after Gopi's parents died; She is left illiterate, naive, kind and shy while Rashi, their own daughter, is educated, friendly, lively and cunning. This is the story of how Kokila Modi - Gopi's steadfast and unwavering mother-in-law, turned the latter into a confident and smarter woman so that she was accepted by her husband, Ahem. Rashi tries many unsuccessful attempts to create trouble for Gopi, but in the end the cousins are happily accepted by their family and their respective partners. Kinjal, Kokila's daughter, is married to Dhaval, the cousin of Rashi. Later, Gopi gives birth to Meera and Rashi delivers twin-boys Sahir and Samar. Gopi finds her long-lost alive parents. Her younger sister Radha falls in love with Anita's brother Umang who vows to avenge the Modi family for Anita's bitterness.

Umang marries Radha despite being already married to his accomplice Tripti who later kills him accidentally. Radha thinks Gopi is responsible for Umang's demise and plots against her by throwing Meera in the river. Kokila holds Gopi responsible and the latter leaves the Modi mansion.

Gopi is raising her second daughter Vidya single-handedly. She is an art teacher. Kokila and Ahem are in depression. Rashi is the new matriarch of Modi family. Eventually, Gopi and Ahem finds out Meera never died, but grew up as an orphan and retrieves her. Then, the whole family is reunited.

Radha's true colours are revealed and she is sent to jail. Later, Rashi sacrifices her life to save Gopi from the latter's obsessed colleague Anurag Joshi, who was in love with her. Jigar goes into depression due to Rashi's demise and later gets married to Rashi's cousin, Paridhi in force of his family. Radha returns, tricking Jigar into sleeping with her and gets pregnant.

Soon Radha delivers a daughter, also named Rashi. She threatens to kill baby Rashi and tries to destroy Modi family and tortures Gopi, who then stabs her with a trident and is sentenced to 14 years in jail for the same.
