Here we have Kansas' most controversial and polarizing live release, Live At The Whisky in early 1992. While many people, including the band themselves, have admonished this performance as subpar, mostly due to Steve Walsh's vocal issues and substance abuse around this time, I've always personally felt that this was one of Kansas' best-sounding performances. Mostly due to the songs being heavier than their studio counterparts with more distorted guitars and louder drums. The star of the show is undoubtedly violinist David Ragsdale, a musical force of nature who plays all of Robby Steinhardt's violin parts with virtuosity while also being a rip-roaring rhythm AND lead guitarist as well. This was taken directly from the long-discontinued VHS, and while there is a longer director's cut in circulation, the sound in the official release is much superior as nobody's buried in the mix.
