Batangas Boys is a documentary film about friendship, passion and how local surfers in Nasugbu (Batangas Boys) protect their surfing spots in possible exploitation brought by fast growing community of surfing in the country.
Not long ago, Nasugbu Batangas coasts were basically fishing villages and famous in different unexploited beaches characterized with rolling waves roughly sweeping its coastlines. On late 90’s, a group of local teenagers started to surf in Nasugbu, until surfing started becoming a part of their daily lives, the practice spread until more and more young people got into it.
In every surfing spots localism exists. It usually means local surfers grumbling about how crowded the surf is, or how badly the crowd is behaving (dropping in, getting in the way and so on). Nasugbu locals or known as “Batangas Boys” were recognized for alleged localism. But it is usual for the locals to ask visitors or surfers visiting their local spots questions like, Where they from? Or how they found that surfing spot? They are only protecting their spots for the disrespectful surfers.
Locals need respect. A friendly smile and a ‘Hello’ go a long way. When there’s a friendly vibe everyone gets more waves. It doesn’t matter how good or how bad they are, they’re still guys who regularly surf the spot, know the place inside out, and are used to surfing it with just their mates.
The purpose of this film is to persuade and inform, not to entertain. It will be an expository and investigative documentary driven by interviews and examples.
