Increasing Guitar Speed With Correct Guitar Picking Technique And Alternate Picking

Learning the correct guitar picking technique will allow you to increase the speed of your guitar playing much faster. The way that you hold the pick, how you move the pick, or even the pick itself can be the difference between easily increasing your guitar speed, or staying stuck in a rut.

Changing your picking technique can seem difficult, especially if you have been playing for a long time. It might seem uncomfortable at first to change your guitar picking style, but if you want to increase your speed, and guitar picking ability, then follow the tips I share in this lesson.

In this video, lesson I will show you the correct way to hold the guitar pick and also the most efficient way to pick the guitar strings.

I show you how to correctly move your wrist when you are picking, and more importantly, what not to do with your picking hand.

We will look at alternate picking, and how it is used to increase your guitar picking speed fast! Alternate picking is alternating between down-strokes and up-strokes with your pick. Using all down-strokes, or all up-strokes, can seriously slow down your progress in increasing your guitar picking speed.

The most important thing to remember when you are working on increasing your picking speed is to stay relaxed. It can be very easy to tense up as you start to pick faster, but staying relaxed will make it possible to play much faster.

I also answer the question 'should I anchor my hand on the guitar or let it float freely?'.
