Reflections: An ArtForce Iowa Youth Artists' Exhibit

This year, youth from Brody, Hiatt, Hoyt and Goodrell Middle Schools as well as East, Hoover, North, Lincoln and Roosevelt High Schools participated in art workshops with ArtForce Iowa. These youth representing diverse cultures and experiences were presented with the opportunity to create art pieces that allowed them to show their heritage, values, community and what brings them joy. Young people utilized workshop time to create art pieces using clay, acrylic paint, alcohol ink, paper mache and mosaic tiles as well as scrapbooking to showcase their lives and the things that are most important to them. By learning new art skills as well as expanding the skills they already had, youth were able to reflect on how to turn the meaningful moments and experiences they have had into creative pieces that allowed them the freedom to reflect and express themselves.
