This time we walked from Mankinholes Bank up the hill to cross the Pennine Way at Withens Gate, then over the other side of the hill past the Te Deum stone and down to Withens Clough Reservoir. We had to navigate some tricky gate latches, plus a few groups of sheep and a cyclist on the descent. At the bottom by the reservoir we were passed by a man out running with two dogs. Errol was very keen to try and catch up with them. He forgot about them when we got down to the lake, though, and concentrated on splashing me with water and mud instead. I was surprised to see how low the reservoir currently is.
If you want a nice walk without having to go over the hill first there is a small parking area on the approach from the Cragg Vale side. You can walk all the way around the reservoir quite easily - make sure to wear sturdy footwear and expect a few puddles. There are more details on the Yorkshire Water website, along with a picture of the lake when it's full: https://www.yorkshirewater.com/things...
