Star Citizen Careers - The Smuggler

A fan-made story-oriented video for Star Citizen, written, directed, and produced by years1hundred, using the song Blackheart by Two Steps From Hell, with Voice Over provided by Trendane, and dedicated to the Star Citizen Community members Citizen Ed, Sirius Karsten, Behemoth, and Trendane.

So after I made the Imagine Fan Trailer, a lot of people asked me to make more Star Citizen video content. I toyed around with a number of ideas, but none of them really took off. What I wanted to do was make a video that would provide a fresh perspective to people already familiar with Star Citizen, while also being interesting to people looking into Star Citizen.

What I ended up settling on is a series of videos called Star Citizen Careers (SCC), which will serve as the spiritual successor to the Imagine Trailer.

Star Citizen Career videos are short segments that spotlight various potential Careers within the Star Citizen universe. These videos are designed to bring to life favorite Star Citizen Careers for current Backers, and showcase the potential of this game for new Backers or those on the fence. They feature voice actor narration, and demonstrate a number of reasons for the What and Why of each Career, as well as the awesomeness of pursuing said Careers.

After first making The Fighter Pilot, I heavily considered available footage and limitations in current content, and I decided to counterbalance The Fighter Pilot with The Smuggler. Not only is smuggling a vast and rich Career option within Star Citizen (and one that I'm personally very much looking forward to exploring!) but it is also The Fighter Pilot's antithesis in every way. Where the Fighter Pilot is self-sacrificing in nature, the Smuggler is self-centered. While the Fighter Pilot lives to uphold the law, the Smuggler lives to break it. Where the Fighter Pilot is noble, the Smuggler is amoral.

However, I wrote The Smuggler to be chaotic-good in terms of morality. This is because my love of sci-fi has been heavily inspired by Firefly - the idea of inherently selfish people unavoidably and selflessly helping others is super cool, in my mind. Han Solo inspires me for the same reason. And also, I wanted to save darker plot elements for Careers such as The Mercenary and The Pirate, so that I wouldn't wear people out.

This video features the song Blackheart by renowned musical artist Two Steps From Hell, while the voice acting was done by the amazingly talented Trendane.

As with Imagine, this video would not have been possible without the help of some outstandingly talented Star Citizen Community members – and because of this, I would like to dedicate this video to a few people:
