This video shows how I made an aluminum battery holder for a LIPO used for powering the computer in my autonomous crawler. It is shaped in a way to hopefully prevent too much damage to the computer in case of LIPO explosion.
I bought myself a software for video editing and wanted to give a go on trying something different this time.
What you need for making this battery holder is:
1.5mm thick aluminum sheet... size depends on your battery
straight angle, pencil to draw lines on aluminum
a drill and drill bits, screws and nuts
metal files
tin snips for cutting the sheet aluminum
2 clamps and a rigid/straight piece of metal for bending the aluminum on a table or a sheet metal bender
solvent for cleaning the bare metal surfaces
spray primer and paint
straps for holding the battery in place
glue backed soft foam/rubber for cushioning the LIPO against the aluminum surface.
Hint 1: When drawing the outlines of the folds on aluminum sheet... leave a bit extra space for the battery on all sides and also for the softening.
Hint 2: Plan carefully how you will fold the sides of the holder.. depends very much on your available tools and holder size.
