George Horn is a third generation glove maker based in Stoneybatter in Dublin, Ireland. Now run by George's son Brian and grandson Gerard, they produce a range of men's and women's gloves mainly in leather and tweed. Gerard shows me around the workshop, and we discuss the different sewing machines, including hand-stitched vs. machine-stitched, stretching leather, cutting dies, and various types of leather. We also see the tricky pique sewing machine in action, courtesy of Larissa and Anna.
In addition to George Horn, the father and son also run the Dublin Leather Store, which provides leather, leather dye, tools, and hardware to upholsterers, fashion designers, and people in the leatherworking hobby. They also provide classes for people looking to get into the hobby and try their hand at a new craft.
