(30 Sep 1972) RR7239A NORWAY: NATO'S BIGGEST EVER WAR GAMES
Code name "Strong Express", the exercises held in
Autumn 1972, were intended to test NATO's reflexes
in the event of a threat to security in the North Atlantic
area. The main combined army, navy and air force
manoeuvres were held in Norway above the Arctic
Circle. This is NATO's most vulnerable flank, and
would be of immense strategical value to Russia in the
event of a war. This report shows the external counter
offensive by NATO troops against imaginary invaders
who have theoretically captured northern Norway.
