This video is a recording of a live lecture given by Roberto Morana as part of the one-day Integrity Engineering for a Sustainable Future Conference in June 2023, jointly held by the Institute of Corrosion (ICorr) and the North of England Institute of Mining and Mechanical Engineers (NEIMME).
Lecture Synopsis:
CO2 capture and sequestration (CCS) is an important technology for reducing the amount of CO2 that is emitted into the atmosphere. One of the critical aspects of CCS is corrosion management and materials selection especially when CO2 is in contact with water or when there are different impurities in the CO2 stream. This presentation will discuss some of the industrial challenges for CCS corrosion management and materials selection, review some of the work that has been done on the topic so far, and highlight the remaining gaps that need attention.
Speaker Biography: Roberto Morana, BP
A materials and corrosion chartered engineer with 20 years experience in materials and corrosion across the energy sector. His main interests lie in environmentally assisted degradation phenomena, materials selection, and structural integrity for downhole applications. Has authored or co-authored around 50 publications on materials and corrosion for international magazines and conferences.
About the Institute:
The Mining Institute is the Royal Chartered membership organisation for science and technology in the North. Founded in 1852 by some of the most important contemporary Northern scientists and engineers, our members still actively contribute to academia, industry and public life across the region.
