Here is the much anticipated update on Shelby’s health. Shelby, our blue and gold macaw, has started plucking her feathers, and chewing the ends of her feathers off, and alongside this she was losing weight and not behaving like her normal self. After much time, money and effort spent on trying to find out why, we think we may have discovered a cause and it is entirely our fault. The reason we are sharing this information is to educate others on our mistakes, and maybe highlight a possible care concern you may be facing yourself.

Birds are messy, far messier than anyone really understands until they have them, and learning how messy macaws really are will help you decide if a macaw is right for you.

The reason we are sharing this is to update everyone, and we would appreciate respectful and understanding comments. Hate, negative comments or abuse will be deleted by an outside party not associated with Shelby or Tommi.

When you realise something is different with your pet parrot, you should always first speak with a vet, and carry out the necessary checks to determine any health concerns within the bird.
