Uchi mata sukashi is a counter-technique where tori evades an opponent’s Uchi mata (inner thigh throw), causing them to fall due to their own momentum. It is considered an advanced-level judo technique. Unlike basic throws, this technique depends on reading and responding to the opponent’s movement.
Sumi Otoshi (Corner Drop) is a Te Waza (hand technique) that relies purely on balance breaking (kuzushi) rather than force. Sumi otoshi is considered an advanced-level judo technique. Unlike power-based throws, Sumi otoshi is seen less often, making it an unexpected and effective attack.
Uki otoshi (Floating Drop) is a Te Waza (hand technique) that stands out for its elegance and reliance on pure technique rather than strength.
It is an elegant, high-skill throw but lacks the practicality needed for fast-paced judo competition. It remains an important part of traditional judo and is highly respected, even if it is rarely seen in tournaments!
