Solo Hiking the Tour du Mont Blanc

After finishing the Walker’s Haute Route in 2021 I was looking for another multi day hike. So I started a new hiking adventure in Juli 2022 on the most famous trek in the alps, The Tour du Mont Blanc.
9 days, 188 km, 11000+m elevation gain.

This trail is a very popular one, you circumnavigate the entire Mont Blanc Massif and pass through France, Italy and Switzerland. The views are amazing but don’t expect to have this trail for yourself. You have various options for accommodation, I have chosen to take my tent with me, providing the most flexibiltiy.

For those who can’t decide which trail to choose, the Walker’s Haute Route (WHR) or the Tour du Mont Blanc (TMB), here’s my advice.

You can’t go wrong with either of them, they are both very beautiful trails that offer amazing mountain sceneries.
The WHR is longer (230km), there’s more elevation gain and therefore slightly tougher than the TMB, but you will see two of the most famous mountains in the alps, Mont Blanc and the Matterhorn. Furthermore the WHR isn’t as busy as the TMB, so if you are looking for some solitude the WHR is the better option.
On the other hand, if your main goal is to see the Mont Blanc Massif every day and you’re shorter in time the TMB will be the better option.
