Located in Middle America is a town untouched by time since the 1940s, a true ghost town from a time that has passed. Moselle started as an Iron mining community in the 1830s when settlers started to explore west of the Mississippi River, which is when visible iron was seen above the ground near Moselle, making a perfect industrial site to collect ore without needing to blow up a mountainside to create a mine, it was already on the surface. The iron furnace was constructed in 1849, but it wasn't long until all the ore was excavated from the region. By the turn of the century, there was over 100 people living in Moselle, mainly working at the furnace, others worked downtown in business such as The Post Office, there was 2 general stores, a blacksmith, 2 bars, multiple barbershops , a factory, and a hotel. The only reason people ever came to Moselle was the natural material and industry, so once that was all gone, the local economy never recovered.
Today, when you enter the unincorporated community of Moselle, you see shuttered buildings from the 1800s, scattered vehicles from the 1940s all throughout town, a sign of the town's last great era. With those signs of the past, you can also find hope for the future, despite being labeled a ghost town, this community has 10 people still living here, making use of what has been left behind.
