Should we celebrate 31st December as our New Year?

These days many people in Bharat celebrate 31st December as a New Year even though it is not a New Year for us as per any of our Hindu calendars of any region of our country.

Secondly, it seems as if this night is celebrated only for the excuse of indulging in vices and intoxication.
