For the Nikkei Festival (Matsuri), auditions were held in the summer, and 14 contestants were selected to perform at the semi-finals. Kia chose to sing the song titled "Sanpo", which is one of the songs from the Totoro movie. Based on this performance, Kia made it into the finals, which were held the next day.
