We spent a night at the Indochine Palace in Huế, an elegant landmark hotel.

From the moment we stepped through its grand staircase and into the enormous elevator landing, I felt that mix of scale and intimacy. The hotel’s U-shaped wings surround a swimming pool in the center like a bright French bathhouse; huge gathering spaces, tasteful ornamentation, corridor credenzas out of a painting, and light filtering in under high ceilings. In the Palace Suite (corner, spacious, rich with pillows and marble, robes, televisions, deep tub), the room felt opulent yet lived-in but also luxury that doesn't feel out of reach.

Opened in 2008, Indochine Palace was once one of Huế’s tallest buildings and remains a signature hotel in the city. Its location (105A Hùng Vương Street) places you within walking reach of the Perfume River, the Imperial City, and local food and walking parks. Service, from bellman to poolside staff, still carries that human touch. The property has a variety of suites, studios, and deluxe rooms blending colonial French style, generous furnishings, city, lake or pool views, and amenities like a gym, spa, large outdoor pool, and fine dining experiences at La Brasserie.

This review is both love letter and critique: the walls could benefit from paint in places, the mattress curvature is odd, but the charm, position, and value persist. If you want elegance, history, comfort, and service all in one stay, and don’t need ultra-luxury theatrics, Indochine Palace still delivers.
