The 1970s were supposed to be the golden age of realism in film — but when it came to westerns, censors still slammed the brakes hard. Studios chopped scenes, delayed releases, buried prints, and in some cases, walked away mid-production. These aren’t just violent westerns from the 70s — these were banned or censored westerns that went too far even for that era. Exploitation westerns, European co-productions, Vietnam allegories disguised as frontier stories — each one pissed off somebody.
