Canzon Terza à Basso Solo by Girolamo Frescobaldi, from his collection Canzoni da sonare (Venice, 1634).
Recorded as part of our next online recital. This time our sackbut player Matthijs selected a program, showing the different voices of the sackbut (trombone) with music from Italy around 1600. In this canzona, the trombone is just acting as a 'pedal stop' in the organ. The real soloist here is the organ, where Irene realized the continuo part into this complete piece!
In this concert, fabulous guest keyboard player Irene González Roldán joins us on our Italian organ! Elise (violin) and Anne-Linde (bass violin & viola da gamba) will also join them in some chamber music pieces.
Matthijs is playing on a copy of the anonymous trombone in the Accademia Filarmonia in Verona from around 1560, crooked down to play in G instead of A, and paired with a copy of the Schnitzer mouthpiece from the same collection. Both are built by Aron Vajna in Basel.
Irene is playing on our organ, which was built for us by Orgelmakerij Reil after examples from Northern Italy around 1600.
The online première of the complete concert will be on Friday, February 25, 21:00.
