The Terror Birds have become somewhat of a niche obsession when discussing the Ice Age and the many bizarre creatures that rose during this time. In an era of giant sloths, armadillos the size of cars, and lizards that would make komodo dragons feel inadequate, the Terror Birds stand apart as something altogether even more unusual. Terror Birds, more accurately called the Phorusrhacids if you want to refer to a specific group, would dominate the South American continent for nearly 30 million years, serving as apex predators able to stand up against their mammalian neighbors. But this clearly needs more background. How were birds like this even possible? What adaptations gave them such an edge? And of course, if they were so terrifying, where could they have possibly gone? Let's find out!
