The Rumour (title track) was released on the album The Rumour in August 1988. The song was written by Elton John and Bernie Taupin, featuring piano by Elton John and back vocals by Olivia and Elton John. The Rumour's music video was directed by Brian Grant and choreographed by Kenny Ortega. It was featured in the special "Olivia Down Under" for the Australian Bicentenary in 1988. Brian Grant and Kenny Ortega also directed/choreographed Olivia's Physical video (1981).

Olivia filmed the TV special Olivia Down Under coinciding with the Australian Bicentenary in 1988, which includes The Rumour music video and other songs from The Rumour album. The Special was aired on Australian TV and HBO in the US; also released on home video and laserdisc around the world. Here's a special look at Olivia Down Under with Olivia's self penned song It's Always Australia For Me, featuring her live performance for the Australian Bicentenary at Sydney Entertainment Centre in Sydney, Australia in 1988. The video also includes a rare footage of Olivia singing the song at home with her family for the Australian Bicentennial celebrations.
