病理科和检验科的作用不同。很多人看来病理科和检验科差不多，都是临床医生的取标本送到科里来，过几天患者或者是家属拿一份报告回去，甚至有的人还将病理科与管理病历资料的病案室混为一谈。这中间是有很大的不同的。检验科的大部分检查结果是由仪器产生的，比如血常规的化验结果是一组客观的数据值，比如白细胞多少，红细胞多少，血小板多少等等。检验科的报告发给临床医生之后，临床医生会根据这些数值是否在正常范围之内，再结合患者的其他临床表现，综合考虑患者的诊断，所以检验科的报告单上除了客观的数据以外，没有患者的诊断结果。病理科大多数的病理报告单上会直接写明疾病的诊断结果，临床医生根据病理诊断结果，直接制定治疗计划和方案。检验科更多的依靠仪器和设备，而病理科更多的是依靠病理医生的经验和水平。所以说病理科和检验科虽然送的标本上有重叠的地方，但是在临床的作用当中是很不相同的。
