The NSTF Brilliants Programme recognises at least 18 first-year students studying in the science, medicine and engineering fields. A young man and woman are chosen from each of the 9 provinces. These students must have received top marks in mathematics and physical science in the National Senior Certificate Examinations (grade 12) of the previous year. They are identified by the national Department of Basic Education, and selected by the NSTF.
Kgopolo Danny Ibang is a student from University of Johannesburg, studying computer science and informatics. He matriculated at Galaletsang Science Secondary School in Northern Cape province. He is one of the selected students for the NSTF Brilliants Programme, selected based on his excellent performance in physical science and mathematics in the 2024 matric exams in his province, as well as his choice of study.
