Hey, I went there. You can still see a plaque honoring the location of Compton's Nobel Prize-winning work. They call it scattering 'cuz the x-rays go everywhichway after they hit the electrons. The Compton Effect is the fact that light changes color when it hits a free electron. Classical physics has absolutely nothing that could explain THAT insanity.
