New Lease on Life - Railfanning LDSX

I think this was a popular one for railfans in southern Ontario, seeing the return of what is now LDSX 4003. The engine has called southern Ontario home since 2012, having been resident on Southern Ontario Railway primarily out of Hamilton up until the end of 2018 when CN's takeover of most of G&W's operations in this part of the province meant it was spare/obsolete. Having languished in Hamilton as a parts source to keep sister engine LW 4001 going (which is still alive and well on what is left of SOR out of Garnet), the 4003 was sold to Lambton Diesel and moved to their Sarnia, ON repair shop in March 2022. Emerging a few months later as LDSX 4003, the engine joins Lambton's lease fleet and is decorated in GIO Railways corporate colours.

On a cool but sunny November day, I managed to catch the engine on its' second day of revenue service for GIO on their Trillium Railway operation out of Welland (Feeder), ON. I was hoping to catch the railway's St. Catharines job, but on this day only a single crew was called and they went south to Port Colborne. Still, it was nice to see an 'old friend' again and I like being in Port Colborne... The chore for this day was to switch Ceres Global Ag at the old Robin Hood grain elevator, along with Verbio in Dain City. It wasn't exactly what I had hoped for this day, but still it was a sunny day so I can't complain too much!
