In part 6 of our series, Dr. Shabir Ally steps away from classical Muslim scholarship to better examine how modern Muslim scholars (e.g. Imam Al-Suyuti, Shah Waliullah, Taha Jabir Al-Alwani) have understand the concept of abrogation. Modern Muslim scholars have reduced the number of verses that are said to be abrogated. Dr. Shabir also looks closely at "the sword verse", 9:5, which classical scholars have said abrogates other verses prescribing peace in the Quran.
