Beacon in the Storm | Honoring the Edmund Fitzgerald 50 Years Later

On the 50th anniversary of the Edmund Fitzgerald tragedy, I spent the evening at Split Rock Lighthouse State Park, watching the historic beacon light once again along the Lake Superior shoreline. From one of the park’s beaches, I stood quietly as the light swept across the water - an intentional tribute to the crew lost on Lake Superior in 1975.

Afterward, Roscoe and I made our way back to our cart-in campsite for a peaceful night along the North Shore. With the sound of waves in the distance and the weight of Great Lakes history in the air, it felt like a meaningful way to experience this place.

By morning, we woke to a light dusting of snow covering the campground, adding a quiet, wintry stillness to the landscape and a reminder of how quickly conditions can change along Lake Superior.
