Solo mission in the high country, just me, the Subaru Outback, a roof tent, and a whole lot of Marlborough wilderness. I took on the Severn to Sedgemere Track, a rugged 4WD-only route open just a few weeks each summer, linking Molesworth Station to Rainbow Station through river valleys and grassy farm trails.
Camped up at Coldwater Stream, where the stars were epic, the silence was golden, and the sandflies were absolutely relentless. This is classic Kiwi overlanding; remote, raw, and real. No convoys, no crowds, just a proper backcountry yarn where the mountains meet the sky and the road disappears into the horizon.
