Senior journalist Shabbir Ahmed points out that behind the scenes, Congress and TVK are still continuing alliance discussions, even though nothing is openly acknowledged. Within Congress itself, there are clearly two opinions — one section wants to continue the alliance with DMK, while another section argues for exploring alternatives. At the same time, DMK is not willing to let Congress walk away easily, as both parties need each other, especially with Congress depending on DMK’s support at the national level for the INDIA alliance. Shabbir Ahmed also feels that Vijay’s speeches so far do not reflect the maturity of a full-time politician, and he needs to significantly refine his political messaging if he wants to be taken seriously. While there are some internal issues within the DMK-led alliance, he believes they are not very serious and can be resolved through open discussions and mutual understanding.
