Clip from Wounded Heroes (Documentary Film)

KEY TAKEAWAY FROM THIS CLIP: Preceding the commencement of a U.S. Army-directed, multi-site study on the effectiveness of (what was then) a new treatment for veterans suffering from post-traumatic stress symptoms, Dr. Ali Akber Turabi was definitely a skeptic. Nevertheless, he took part in the study — funded by the National Institute of Health (NIH) [ ‪@NIHgov‬ ] — as one of the principal investigators.

The discussion, here, with the film's host/producer, Michael Gier, reveals how Turabi made a remarkable about face and is, now, an advocate for the featured “alternative treatment,” Stellate Ganglion Block (SGB).

SGB is a procedure that was initially approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in the 1950s for the treatment of certain types of pain and circulation disorders. In 2006, Dr. Eugene Lipov (also appearing in this clip) pioneered the use of SGB for PTS. It is performed with an injection of medication into a collection of nerves at the bottom of the front side of your neck. It is most commonly known as a pain-relieving treatment, used to relieve hot flashes for menopause and cancer patients and treating shingles — and, now, to alleviate symptoms related to post-traumatic stress disorder (PTS).

FROM THE FILM's WEBSITE [ https://www.woundedheroesdocumentary.... ]: “Post-Traumatic Stress (PTS) among our veterans is a serious problem with over 20 veterans a day taking their lives by suicide. And just like veterans; firefighters, police officers, and other first responders not only deal with PTS, but they also have very high suicide rates. Most are given prescription drugs but as many have said, medication is just a band-aid over a wound that will never heal. Our Heroes deserve more than just a band-aid and so director/producer Michael Gier went on a mission and found successful alternative treatments that give anyone battling PTS their lives back. Directed by Michael Gier and Produced by Gier Productions, this award winning film gives HOPE and literally saves lives.”

The Innovation Continues: Dual Sympathetic Reset

After momentum slowly gained and as clinical trials of SGB to treat PTSD ensued, Dr. Eugene Lipov discovered that two injections on one side of the neck into the stellate ganglion had the potential of yielding even better relief to folks suffering from PTSD. Today, his treatment protocol is known as Dual Sympathetic Reset (DSR).) [ https://dreugenelipov.com/dual-sympat... ].
