Test fitting a variety of intake manifolds on my Pontiac 455, to show the carburetor position differences. I first fit and measure a factory pre-EGR intake, then measure several different aftermarket intakes to give an idea of how much they alter the carburetor placement. This may be helpful in determining how an intake may alter hood scoop placement, or available hood clearance on other models.
NOTE: Even though the Tomahawk intake, tested at the end, places the carburetor VERY close to the stock position, it IS NOT a good choice for most people. It is a single-plane with larger runners - I would ONLY suggest this intake for people with aftermarket heads or higher level porting to their factory heads, along with larger camshafts.
NOTE 2: Thanks to Tony for adding more data (in the comments below). It would be awesome for others to use my same measuring method, and share the results they get for other intakes.
