UPDF Engineers Build First Permanent Classroom Block for Chichwamba Primary School

The management, staff and pupils of Chichwamba Church of Uganda Primary School in Lyantonde district are overjoyed by a new two-classroom block that was constructed by engineers of the Uganda Peoples'Defence Forces to commemorate the 44th Tarehe Sita anniversary. The block marks the school's first permanent structure since its founding in 2017.

Mrs. Ekyarikunda Phiona, the head teacher, expressed her gratitude to the Commander-in-Chief, H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, and the UPDF for constructing the impressive building.

Capt Rebecca Twinomujuni, the project engineer, noted that the building was completed in just one and a half months, from foundation to finish. She also highlighted that most materials were sourced locally, and community members were employed at the construction site.

She thanked the community for their support and ownership of the project, as well as the UPDF for entrusting her with its execution.

Ssempijja Emmanuel, a pupil at Chichwamba, was both delighted and surprised by the UPDF’s engineering capabilities.

"I'm very happy that the UPDF has built a classroom block for our school because the old building was not good. I thought the UPDF's role was only to defend the country, but I didn’t know they could also build such structures."

The classroom block will officially be handed over to the school on February 5, 2025
