This video illustrates the role of the Old Sydney Markets that once occupied the site of the Queen Victoria Building from the early to late 19th century and then discusses the vision, construction and context behind the opening of this monumental department store in 1898. It continues to run through the operations inside the QVB and how the building faced challenges throughout the 20th century including a plan to demolish the building and also the Hilton bombing tragedy that took place before the structure was fully restored in the 1980s.
