Some of us aren’t like the cool kids. We don’t have chains to oil or belts to maintain, we have a final drive system aka a “shaft drive”.
A common misconception is that a final drive is maintenance free. Although we don’t have to clean and oil a chain every 500 miles or worry about losing a belt, you still have to change the gear oil every so often (approx every 16k-24k miles). This is how I do it. Your process/products used may vary depending on your individual machine.
This is part of the Rider’s Manual of Common Tasks series. This series explains basic tasks, skills, and knowledge that every rider should know.
