Bach - Prelude & Fugue No. 1 in C-major, WTC II BWV 870 // With Pedal Cam!

I've a heavy heart today, folks. I just lost a dear friend and musical mentor. Her spirit is with me, though, in this music.

And, while I realize that I might take some heat for the spacious approach I took in the Prelude, I have to say that, to me, this music represents a kind of emergence of growth, of life from a single cell, which culminates in the ebullient and unwavering forward motion and motoric propulsions of the Fugue. It's such a release! The Prelude, to me, is completely internal, in search of the external, as it emerges outwards.

The Fugue, however, is my musical muscle car. I've really got to rev that "engine" so to speak and a spacious Prelude helps me achieve this. The Prelude also holds, for me, a quality of infinite space, of a state of ecstasy.

Here is Prelude & Fugue No. 1 in C-major, BWV 870, from Book 2 (1744) of The Well-Tempered Clavier by J.S. Bach. I've also rigged up the pedal cam for a second viewing of the same performance, as I know that some folks seem to find it helpful. Anyhow, here it is for you. 💙
