Lieutenant Clarence Dickinson and his wingman, John McCarthy, launch from the deck of the USS Enterprise in their two SBD Dauntless dive bombers—unaware that fate is steering them straight into history. Caught in the chaos, Dickinson and McCarthy dive into the fight, engaging enemy aircraft in a desperate aerial battle. Both planes are hit and forced down. McCarthy doesn’t make it. Grief and fury ignite within Dickinson—driving him to strike back immediately.
