Alright, so here’s the lowdown after watching Jake and Dustin from MACkite chat about the new 2025 Duotone Evo D/Lab LTD with the Blue Aluula material—aka the “Bluula.” This kite is definitely something new and different, not just a fresh colorway. Duotone used an updated version of the Aluula material called D/TX, and while the aesthetics didn’t quite meet their usual standards (which is why this release is limited), the performance is what has everyone talking. It’s lighter, stiffer, and you can pump it up to 10 PSI thanks to the smaller leading edge and stronger material. It also features a six-point bridle system.
From what we understand, this blue version is essentially a sneak peek at what the 2026 Evo D/Lab will be—just without the gold colorway. And yeah, it’s only available in the U.S. in sizes 8, 9, and 10m, with a limited production run. So once they’re gone, that’s it.
Dustin had a solid session on the 10m during a 30-mile downwinder in 25-30 knot wind. His take? The kite absolutely boosts—it’s fast, snappy, and demands your full attention. It’s not a park-and-ride kite; it’s high performance all the way. One thing he noticed was some stalling out of the bag, which Duotone says is fixable with proper bar trimming. But still, having to trim a kite on day one was a bit of a surprise.
Jake took it for a spin after Dustin and had a similar experience. He was coming off a Reedin Supermodel and jumped on the Bluula expecting similar low-end power—but it wasn’t quite there. His impression was that Duotone took the user-friendly Evo D/Lab and pushed the performance slider way up, but at the cost of accessibility. For riders who love the ease of use and versatility of the old Evo, this kite might feel like a totally different beast. But if you were always riding the Evo D/Lab hard and wished it had even more to give, this new version delivers.
They both emphasized that this kite isn’t for everyone. It’s for advanced riders who want a super responsive, boosty, loop-friendly, pivot-heavy kite and are comfortable tuning and reacting quickly on the fly. It demands more skill and attention but rewards with serious performance. The stalling issue seems like something that’ll be ironed out with tuning, but it’s still worth noting for potential buyers.
Also, with Ralf Groesel—the original Evo designer—no longer at Duotone, and new designers like Sky Solbach jumping in, it’s clear this kite has new DNA. It's not just a color swap; it’s a legit evolution. And that might leave some of the previous Evo D/Lab fans behind.
Bottom line? If you’re an intermediate or less aggressive rider, the Evo SLS might be a better match—it keeps that friendly, low-end accessible feel and saves you a chunk of change. But if you want to turbocharge your Evo experience and don’t mind being an early adopter of new tech, the Bluula might be your next favorite kite. It’s fast, powerful, and rare. So if that sounds like your jam, now’s your shot.
