This is just another one of those random test recordings I keep trying to do so that I can make better quality gameplay videos. There was also no proper footage of stuff like enabling Surround Sound on Wii U and how it is supposed to sound like when it is enabled with the proper equipment so that's why I'm interested in this.
Timestamps
0:58 - Enabling Surround Sound (Wii U)

8:36 - Enabling Surround Sound (Switch OLED)
9:10 - Nintendo Switch Sports Gameplay and Surround Sound Test
The capture card for this use is the AverMedia Live Gamer Bolt (GC555)
It is a capture card device that can record up to 4K at 60fps. It is probably the only external capture card at the moment that I can find and that can record Wii U and Switch surround sound. It's neat, and I do like the fact that I can hear all 6 speakers being played through my headphones. The only downside is that it does require a reasonably powerful PC with a Thunderbolt 3 port to use this. A USB-C cable isn't powerful enough sadly to power this device up and use it to record.
I enable Surround Sound on my Wii U, and Switch OLED to showcase that surround sound is enabled and all 6 sounds can be heard on headphones or speakers. This also includes the subwoofer as well. I place the audio mixer on the bottom of the video to show the audio playing and what audio channels are playing and are not playing. This is a second part of the recording test on a different capture card that can record LPCM Surround Sound.
Listed from top to bottom of the audio mixer, the order is...
1. Front Left
2. Front Right
3. Center
4. Subwoofer LFE
5. Rear Left
6. Rear Right
I use Wii Party U to test out the surround sound since most minigames and also some party modes can capture sound that come from the rear speakers. The center and subwoofer speakers don't play anything at all in Wii Party U. From what I figured out, the rear speakers mostly play stuff in the background like outside noises and crowd cheers.
Nintendo Switch Sports is also a game I tried out since it was mentioned on the eShop that it is LPCM compatible. It's strange that this may be one of the very few games where the OST is being played from both the front and rear speakers. It's pretty interesting to find out what stuff is being played. Like before, and in majority of the games, the center speaker and subwoofer don't play anything at all in this game.
I had to lower the mixer by 10 decibels or else the audio wouldn't sound great when it gets loud. I'm still working on fixing that issue as I'm doing more recording tests.
I'll be uploading some more stuff soon. This was something I was really into for a while. I used an opacity filter on the audio mixer so it can still be there without covering up the bottom part of the screen.
