We got a chance to check out a great collab show with @solidaritystu and @the_apartment_chicago. The Apartment is A Traveling venue collective from Chicago. Solidarity Studios begins with a simple premise: giving people the tools and resources they need to tell their story and galvanize their communities around the issues that affect them most. What is more powerful though, is when these communities connected through the Solidarity Studios network are able to trade more than musical tips--they are able to trade strategies and stories to help achieve justice. With this in mind, we are bringing the youth and communities of Occupied Bethlehem, the Southside of Chicago, and Cape Town, South Africa together under one set of mobile music studios meant to inspire solidarity and help spark additional change (in addition to awesome music of course). Additionally, we are also working with professional filmmakers in each location to document the stories of the artists and their community. Most importantly, Solidarity Studios will connect our artivists and community partners in these locations with like-minded people from other cultures who are eager to understand their struggles and draw out parallels with their own experiences. They're excited to develop true bonds of solidarity.

Under the moniker, Helicopter Leaves, Vaccaro is releasing the debut album of his solo project. Get Stuck In is a collection of songs from the past four years where Vaccaro wrote, recorded, and mixed everything in his grandfather’s old home recording studio. Influenced by a combination of 90s indie rock and 70s power pop, Vaccaro assembles intricate stories in 2-3 minute indie pop blasts of fun. From difficult encounters with disappointing role models to conversations with others struggling to show empathy, his songs shed light on the tough parts of growing up and the struggles to continue to live life surrounded with love. Vaccaro’s work also explores the challenges of self-discovery in early adulthood. His songs examine how the patterns of thinking that are instilled in you from a young age can sometimes seem like the only way to live your life, but once you branch out you can find yourself growing in unexpected ways. “It seems that as time goes on, I am unlearning five other things,” Vaccaro says. Get Stuck In‘s title was inspired by an English friend who used the phrase, explaining that it means to start doing something with enthusiasm. It has inspired Vaccaro, and he hopes that it encourages others to get stuck in the act of creating.”Get Stuck In is about growing, loving, and finding my place on this vast rock,” he says.“I hope that these songs can express that feeling even in a minuscule capacity.”

Starter Wife is a enby singer-songwriter and guitarist in Chicago. They write self-reflective songs about being a social person living a loner’s life, about gender euphoria, and about fearing they are unable to mentally leave 2014. They also write petty songs about how their poly ex’s boyfriend is a chump or about a former awful bandmate who found success on Stranger Things.
