This is a video I uploaded two or three years ago on my side channel, Guy Prolly ( / @guyprolly , but which coincides with the upcoming midsommar festivities. It also explains 'where I'm at', in a way that no low-key video about audio or camera gear can.
There are plenty of channels fully dedicated to camera / audio out there, and which are better equipped to talk about both, and more emphatic in doing so. I'll still cover audio and camera stuff and may even get to board games and LARPing (so to speak), but for a different reason.
While Fauxtaku Lounge posting waned in the Cvid months, I pitched my time (thanks to work cancellations) into learning skills, namely building, but building like my great, great, great, great, great grandparents used to: no nails, timber on timber, precise cuts, with a focus on practical beauty.
One of my first projects was this, a midsomar pole built by fastening four timbers using basic joinery including a Japanese scarf joint. I had pondered whether to do a z-style (Roman), but since we were in Japan, focusing on Japanese joinery for a Swedish midsommar pole I thought best.
Now, to FL stuff: This was all filmed with one of my last Fujifilm cameras, the X-Pro 3. Because it and the lenses I used lacked stabilisation, jitters were a problem that Final Cut and intense concentration ameliorated.
I encountered no problems autofocusing because this was a VERY simple project, but ultimately, no Fuji, not even the X-H2s, focused as well as Sony cameras from half a decade earlier, I gave up. And picked up a Canon.
But the colours and film simulations available in video, along with the tack sharp footage, is something I applaud Fuji for since the X-H1 days.
Expect more videos like this going forward, with brief explainers and some camera/audio/larp observations.
