Gina McGrath, Fans Tutorial | Split/Opp 6 Petal Antispin

This week we have Gina McGrath, returning to show us some more Fan Anti-spin goodness. Gina is a wonderful performer, instructor, and human being. When she is not spinning or working on her flow-centric youth outreach program, GoFlow, you can find her instructing or performing at events like FLAME Festival and Kinetic Fire.

We caught up with Gina at Kinetic Fire, where she broke down the Split/Opp 6 Petal Anti-spin with fans.

I am going to base the instructional portion of this on the hand orientation and direction that Gina travels around the pattern.

1. Start by placing your fans on the right side of your body with your wrists out and thumbs pointed inward, or at each other.
2. While keeping your left arm on the top, use the curves of the fans to trace opposite sides of an imaginary horizontal line through the center to the left side of your body. You should end up with your pinkie sides facing the left side of your body.
3. I’ll break this up but please realize you are going to have to put both of these together.
3a. From the bottom left, anti-spin the fan in your right hand to the top of the pattern, or the up position.
3b. From the top left, anti-spin the fan in your left hand to the bottom of the pattern, or the down position.
4. I’ll break this up as well, but please realize you are going to have to put both of these together.
4a. From the down position, anti-spin the fan in your right hand to the top right position.
4b. From the up position, anti-spin the fan in your left hand to the bottom right position.
5. From here, you should find yourself where we started this pattern. Fans on the right side of your body with your wrists out and thumbs pointed inward, or at each other.
