We visited the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office Helicopter/Search and Rescue Unit in California to get a behind-the-scenes look at their operations and the work they do with their “Henry 1" helicopter.
The unit’s primary mission is law enforcement, but it’s probably most known for its rescue capability. As one of the busiest single-aircraft rescue helicopter programs in the U.S., the unit responds to about 1,000 missions each year on average. Based at the Sonoma County Airport, Henry 1 is available 24/7 – staffed for 10 hours a day, with crew members on call for 14 hours.
Watch for the feature story and incredible photos in the Spring Mega Issue of Vertical and Valor magazines, coming this March at verticalmag.com/issues.
