Built in the 18th century, Highgate House once served colonial governors and plantation owners, but today it stands overlooking a village that changed the course of Jamaican and Caribbean history.

We examine how formerly enslaved Jamaicans were able to legally purchase land, establish homes, and build a self-sustaining community — a radical and groundbreaking idea at the time.
