In today’s video, I’m going to be taking the “guesswork” out of planning your next teambuilding day with this series of guessing games that are sure to get the whole office buzzing.
0:00 Intro
0:18 Charades
0:50 Pictionary
1:33 Taboo
2:22 Price is Right
3:08 Guess Who?
Our first game is Charades, and it’s a great one if you want to get your team up and moving.
To play, split your group into two teams and choose who will go first. One player from each team will get up and try to act out a word or phrase in complete silence while their team members must guess what they’re trying to communicate before the time runs out!
Play continues until each player has had a turn or a designated score has been reached. Be prepared for lots of laughs!
Our next game is Pictionary, a family game night classic that brings joy, frustration and creativity to the table in equal measure.
Here’s how to play. First, split the group into two teams. Have one player from each team draw a word or a phrase. The other players on a team will attempt to guess what is being drawn before the time runs out. If they guess correctly, they get a point. Play continues until a certain score has been reached, or until everyone on each team has had a turn. It’s a great game to improve communication skills, plus it’s also a refreshing change from staring at a screen all day.
Next up, we have Taboo, a hilarious office game designed to improve everyone’s teamwork skills while also encouraging some fun-filled, out-of-the-box thinking.
To play, have everyone split into two teams and have each team select a team leader. The leader will draw a card and attempt to get their teammates to guess the word written on the card. However, there’s a catch — the team leader can’t use any of the “taboo” words that are written on the card. For instance, if their word is “pillow,” they won't be able to use words such as “sleep,” “head” or “bed” when trying to communicate. Every time the team members guess the word, they get a point. Play continues until everyone has had a turn.
Now, you may recognize the fourth game I’m going to share with you, thanks to its legendary TV status. However, you may not have realized that it can be pretty easily adapted to the office. Can you guess which game I’m thinking of? If you guess the Price is Right — you’d be correct!
To play, gather your team in a room and select a group of “contestants” at random. Then, select a collection of items from around the office and place them on a table. Have each contestant guess the price of each object. The contestant with the closest guess wins! It’s a fun way to take a break out of the work day — and hearing employees explain their guesses is a great way to work on presentation skills!
And finally, I’ve got one more game for you today before we wrap things up, and it’s an awesome one if your goal is to have colleagues get to know one another better. It’s called Guess Who?
To start, make a list of familiar real-life or fictional characters such as celebrities, historical figures, movie characters, or people in your industry. Then split your group into two teams and assign a character to each player. Then the teams will take turns asking yes or no questions to each opposing player until they identify what character that player is. Once a character is identified, the player is out. Play continues until only one player remains and the rest are eliminated. It’s a great way to promote collaboration and work on group problem-solving skills.
And there you have it! Five guessing games ideal for a midday coffee break, work happy hour or pre-meeting warm-up. Let us know in the comments below which ones you tried, and how they went!
