Climbing Mt Elbrus 5,621m with ‪@CarolineLeon‬ the highest mountain in Europe

If you're interested in climbing Mount Elbrus, the highest peak in Europe at 5,621 meters, located on the Russian border, here's a look at what it's like to summit this glaciated giant.

I began my journey by flying into Minervody, the closest city to the town of Terskol, where Mount Elbrus is situated. From there, it was a 3-hour drive to the small town of Terskol, nestled at the base of the mountain, where I would begin the climb.

Day 1: After arriving in Russia, I made my way to Terskol and settled in for the adventure ahead.

Day 2: To start acclimatizing, I hiked up to Cheget, a nearby mountain standing at 3,000 meters. The climb offered stunning views and helped my body adjust to the higher altitudes.

Day 3: I then moved onto Mount Elbrus itself, hiking up to Cheper Azu at 3,000 meters. This was another key acclimatization step as I ventured closer to the base of the massive peak.

Day 4: From Cheper Azu, I hiked up to the Leaprus Huts, located at 3,950 meters. These huts would serve as a base for higher climbs and were crucial for further acclimatization.

Day 5: On this day, I completed an acclimatization hike up to 4,500 meters. It was vital to give my body time to adjust to the thin air before tackling the summit push.

Day 6: Summit Day! After weeks of preparation and acclimatization, I made my way to the top of Mount Elbrus. The final ascent was challenging but incredibly rewarding as I stood atop Europe’s highest peak, taking in the vast, snow-covered views around me.

Day 7: After reaching the summit, it was time to descend. The journey down was just as scenic as the ascent, marking the end of a challenging and memorable mountaineering experience.
